WTF?! // 31 Days of Halloween — Day 1 (Slither)

Read Time:1 Minute

Happy 31 days of Halloween!
This year, we’re celebrating with a different movie pick each day that made me audibly gasp, “WHAT THE FUCK?!”

Today, it’s Slither (2006), written and directed by James Gunn. A meteorite crashes in the woods The Blob style, and it wouldn’t be a horror movie if we didn’t have some curious idiot poking it with a stick. Michael Rooker is struck by a gnarly alien parasite and undergoes a monstrously hideous transformation. The cast is also led by Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Banks, but it’s really the makeup and creature effects that are the star of this movie.

Everything is dripping and gross, and you can almost smell it. There are plenty of great scenes, including a grand finale monster blob of arms and legs. But for me, it was the character of Brenda Gutierrez (Brenda James) transforming into the most grotesque, giant, busting at the seams, bloated ball of WHAT THE FUCK?!

What the fuck is that? How the fuck is this going to end for her? Why the fuck is she making those noises? Oh dear god, who the fuck thought this up?

Of course, I loved it! Of course it was disgusting, and of course I watched it again and again. Slither– a good time for the whole family.

I love horror. I consume genre films, tv, and books. THE THING is the greatest movie of all time and I wish Chucky was my bestie. I have 6 cats and 2 dogs and I collect toys. I don’t consider myself a professional critic, mainly because I don’t get paid, but I do enjoy discussing horror with anyone who will listen.
