WTF?! // 31 Days of Halloween — Day 20 (Hatchet II)

Happy 31 days of Halloween!

This year, we’re celebrating with a different movie pick each day that made us audibly gasp, “WHAT THE FUCK?!

I wish I could go back and re-record our episodes (Nightmare on 5th Street: A horror movie podcast) on the Hatchet series because I was way too stiff and awkward back then. I loved the shit out of these movies, and there were plenty of WTF moments. So, on the 20th day of Halloween, we’ll choose just one from the 2nd Hatchet film– the death of Reverend Zombie, our beloved Tony Todd.

It’s Tony Todd; of course, they set us up for something nefarious. When you think he’s going to make it, they hit you on the head with a frying pan. He’s butchered in half, and Crowley rips his spine clear from his body while his head is swinging below. He’s essentially skinned him and separated his spine and skull from the rest of his body, à la Predator style. What the fuck? You’ll have to see the gore-fest for yourself.

The first 3 Hatchet films are one continuous story, with each film picking up immediately where the last film ends. Created by Adam Green, each movie stars Victor Crowley out to seek revenge and kill anyone and everyone in the absolute bloodiest way possible. The films are quantifiable in buckets of blood. Buckets of blood, I say. There are many great cameos, including the original Freddy, a couple of Jasons, Leatherface, a Mike Myers, and Candyman.

Victor Crowley knows how to have a good time. There’s slicing, dicing, chopping, sawing, tearing, and shredding… you get the point. Blood and guts everywhere, and it’s all over the top. I guess that is why there’s a repeated line in each of the three films- “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
