It’s been 30 years since Fantasia International Film Festival presented its first genre film festival in Montreal. This year is not just an anniversary milestone, but the fest is offering a stacked lineup of films and events that you don’t want to miss. From July 16 to August 2, 2026, the passion behind this epic event continues, bringing cinema lovers more horror, sci-fi, and beyond.
Her Own Private Hell
Kicking off opening night, the anticipated Her Private Hell. Nicolas Winding Refn’s new film is at the top of everyone’s must watch lists. Starring Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton, the film will take viewers to a futuristic metropolis where a deadly entity is wreaking havoc. Refn will also be in attendance to receive the Cheval Noir Career Achievement Award and give a live masterclass.
The Last Temptation of Becky
Of course, there are so many genre films that we are looking forward to checking out. One of our most anticipated films here at Horror Movie Blog is The Last Temptation of Becky. Who doesn’t love watching LuLu Wilson do her thing on screen? Now working as a field agent for the CIA, Becky is sent undercover to Poland to infiltrate a family of innkeepers who are running a tourist venue in Hitler’s WWII bunker. Jenn Wexler (The Sacrifice Game) is the director of this one. The film also stars Kate Siegel and Neil Patrick Harris.
Rubberhead: The Life and Monsters of Steve Johnson
Fantasia isn’t just bringing us exciting new genre films. It’s also giving us the opportunity to look back at how far we’ve come, while honoring those who have gotten us here with films like Rubberhead: The Life and Monsters of Steve Johnson. Directed by Nick Taylor, Rubberhead is a documentary that looks at the work of Steve Johnson. Johnson is one of Hollywood’s best monster makers, and we finally get a glimpse of his journey in practical effects over the years.
And So Much More!
There is no shortage of hype coming out of Fantasia this year. Filmmaker Takashi Shimizu is bring the World Premiere of The Village of Eight Gravestones and the North American premiere of The Mouths. The beloved Adams Family is returning to the festival with their new film The Glorious Dead. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein’s Freaks Part II is closing out the fest. Freaks Part II. there is so much to look forward to.
