Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma // A Chattanooga Film Fest Review

Not many times can we say a movie is based on actual events and it be true. However, with Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma, they really do mean it. Well, the first ten minutes at least. Director and writer Shane Brady based his movie on real-life events that happened to him when a $20,000 down payment for his future home was stolen by a hacker. The remaining eighty-plus minutes are a bloody revenge flick aimed at the hacker in question.

The Chameleon

Mark (Shane Brady) and Amy (Augie Duke) are ready to move into their new home and just need to wire the down payment to officially kick off the process. Unfortunately for them, their two sons, Ralph (Owen Atlas) and Freddy (Collin Thompson), have made an enemy online. These two kids live their lives online. Whether they’re making videos and accumulating thousands of viewers and likes, or playing online games, they find ways to get into trouble. In this case, they beat the ever living shit out of a player online, and humiliate him in the process. Too bad for them, they screwed around with a notorious hacker wanted by the CIA.

The Chameleon, played by Chandler Riggs of “The Walking Dead” fame, does a phenomenal job as the hacker. He’s a total dick who’s scammed massive amounts of money from so many victims that the CIA wants to take him down. He lives a lavish lifestyle in a mansion, spending all the money he steals. Not only that, but he’s a gross human being with disgusting habits as well. He’s unapologetically shameful and enjoys every moment of his shenanigans. Chandler Riggs, you did a beautiful job playing the jerk here. Hats off to you, sir!

Based on True Events

Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma does well when it veers into the fantasy world of the “based on true events” storyline. This dark comedy looks to satisfy not just Brady’s lust for revenge, but the viewer’s as well. When Mark and Amy had their money stolen, their entire world was flipped upside down. Desperate times call for desperate measures. The police are of no help. Their bank also offers nothing. There’s only so much a family can take before needing to confront the problem. In this case, facing the problem gets downright bloody. Parents Mark and Amy have made no attempts to shield their sons, Ralph and Freddy, from any of the violence either. It’s a family affair unique to them alone.

Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma is hilariously over the top. The violence is ridiculous, and the scenarios far-reaching. That’s what makes the fantasy work, though. The movie is a revenge flick that’s gone too far, way too far. It’s dark, cringey, funny, and a bloody good time. Sometimes, too much is not enough. In this case, it’s nowhere near enough. Bring on the blood, bring on the violence, and let’s get some more laughs going!
