What do we love more than horror here at Horror Movie Blog? Free horror! That’s right, it doesn’t get any better than that these days. With all the uncertainty of our hellish landscape of economic woes, we need a good escape. And for us horror fans, we naturally turn to the escapist type of insanity. That’s why we love Tubi here at HMB. And sometimes the horror exists in the movies, leaving the beloved streaming service. So before they’re gone, check out these six horror movies leaving Tubi soon!
Nosferatu (1922)
Directed by F. W. Murnau
This is the OG for my sister and me when we started our horror movie podcast back in the day. We couldn’t help but discuss Nosferatu as it’s one of the first greats. So loved that it’s been re-released in color and remade for newer audiences. You can’t go wrong when there’s a creepy vampire involved. I mean, come on! He’s so renowned that even SpongeBob SquarePants couldn’t help but acknowledge his scary existence.
Audition
Directed by Takashi Miike
Stop! Right now! I know you’re thinking Dalia has gone and lost her marbles recommending this movie. I promise I’m not just recommending it because it’s leaving Tubi. I’m telling you that, as wicked as it is, here’s a movie you just need to watch to get. A beautiful young woman tortures the widowed TV producer. What did he expect when he put out that creepy call for a new wife? Doesn’t he know he’s in a horror film?
Troll Hunter
Directed by André Øvredal
If you’re into found footage flicks, you have probably heard of this Norwegian gem. If you’re usually not into found footage, I promise you won’t be disappointed with Troll Hunter. I remember watching this for the first time as a joke. The title suggests a hint of humor. Even the description of the Norwegian government killing trolls acknowledges that they do, in fact, exist. Check it out, you will not be disappointed.
Day of the Dead (1985)
Directed by George A. Romero
Of course, I’m talking about one of the greatest zombie flicks in existence. Never trust the government to do the right thing. Especially don’t trust them when things get hairy. Day of the Dead may be a fictitious scenario involving the undead, but it speaks to our distrust of the government. Experimentation in the name of science seems to be the name of the game. But I still can’t help but watch this classic. Who else is Team Bub?
Ginger Snaps
Directed by John Fawcett
What do you get when you mix werewolves, death-obsessed sisters, and teenagedom? Why, you get Ginger Snaps, of course! It’s one of those comfort horror movies that you break out every year, not just for its nostalgic appeal. It’s also a heartbreaking story of transformation and the love between two sisters. Run to Tubi now and watch Ginger Snaps before it’s gone.
The Grudge (2004)
Directed by Takashi Shimizu
Don’t look at me like that. I know it’s a bit weird for me to recommend an American remake of an already great Japanese flick. I, of course, will always say watch the original. There’s something fun about the remake, though, and a lot of it has to do with Sarah Michelle Gellar’s performance. She is a horror icon after all. It also doesn’t hurt that Ju-On’s own Takashi Shimizu came on to direct this American retelling.
There’s so much more horror to find on Tubi, so don’t get all bougie and ignore its lineup. It’s full of classics, new horror, and campy fun. However, before exploring its complete list and all it has to offer, consider these six movies. Hurry before they’re gone!
Dalia De Leon
I love horror because it's a comfort genre for me. I have many labels in life which means I'm busy but never too busy to pop a scary or genre flick on the tube to enjoy. In addition to life and writing for Horror Movie Blog, I am the former co-host to the late Nightmare on 5th Street: A horror movie podcast. May she rest in peace. You can find my reviews here on HMB and TheCherryPicks.com.
