If winter has you down, allow us to bring you a little genre cheer. A little birdy has told us that some of our favorite indie horror filmmakers are joining forces to bring us a new project. While details are still under wraps, it pays to be friends with some of the people involved. Allow us to share what we know about this mysterious new indie project thus far.
Aaron Bennett (Joker’s Wild), Anthony Cousins (Frogman), Bethany Watson and Dennis Cahlo (The Trouble with Tessa), and Morley Nelson (Uncontained) are hard at work on an upcoming indie project. However, they are keeping their lips sealed regarding the title and synopsis at the moment.
The official press release for the new project states:
“This is particularly interesting because each of the five filmmakers have extremely supportive friends and fans within the horror community. However, they have been exceptionally successful in completely different subgenres.”
According to Nelson, “We came together as fans of each other’s work. Anthony and I have worked together before and have been discussing another project when Aaron and I connected through a mutual friend who is a horror podcaster. Bethany and Dennis reached out through a horror influencer.”
Nelson continued, “We instantly bonded over our love of horror and indie filmmaking. It’s fantastic just to be working together as a group, but what’s really exciting is that this particular project has never really been done before. We cannot wait to see the horror community’s reaction.”
Perhaps, if we’re all good little ghouls we’ll get another piece of information this holiday season. Either way, we’re leaning all the way in. We cannot wait to see what wicked things this crew has in store for us.
Nelson’s indie zombie film, Uncontained, has been living its best undead life on various streaming platforms this year. Anthony Cousins Frogman has also found success in the streaming streets and has spawned the sequel, Frogman Returns, which is currently hopping along the festival circuit. You can stream Bethany Watson and Dennis Cahlo series, The Trouble with Tessa, on Tubi at the moment. Last, but not least, Aaron Bennett’s short, Joker’s Wild, is available on YouTube. Bennet is currently running a campaign to raise money for the next installment of this series starring the beloved David Howard Thornton as Batman’s nemesis himself.
This newly formed team is currently in pre-production. They plan to start production January so keep an eye out for updates on this indie project. We’re sure it’s going to be a scream.
