It’s February and love is in the air… or not. Actually, the world is still on fire, and we need to keep on keeping on. My intention isn’t to depress anyone but to share in our one true love: horror. Whether we like it slow and creeping or fast and chaotic, we all have our favorites. I discovered I am a bit of a romantic. Most of my more recent new favorites put love front and center.
Whether it’s a first date or a chance meeting or whether it was meant to be or not, horror easily seeps in. So I have decided to put a streaming guide together of my favorite romantic horror, where love did its best and worst.
Werewolves Within

Have I gone and added Werewolves Within to yet another one of my streaming guides? Yes, because I cannot find a reason to ever skip it. I adore Sam Richardson and Harvey Guillén. Their characters (Finn Wheeler and Joachim Wolfson) remind me so much of myself. It may be that Richardson is an awkward, hopeless romantic, but the real reason this film’s on this list is simply that Finn (Richardson) and Joaquim (Guillén) are sweethearts.
Heart Eyes

Another Josh Ruben film? There are several sweethearts in this movie, but it’s the main characters that make Heart Eyes a favorite. Smart independent woman meets new coworker. Ally (Olivia Holt) and Jay (Mason Gooding) may be a match made in heaven, but there’s this whole business with being chased by a couples slasher on Valentine’s Day. Love is definitely in the air!
Drop
Where you can watch: Prime Video
Violet’s first date in years keeps being interrupted by a deranged series of drops to her phone. She is forced to continue the date, and her date, Henry, may be too good to be true. If love isn’t what’s cooking, I don’t know what is. This movie is so exciting, and I loved watching Violet work her way through so many uncomfortable situations.
Companion
Where you can watch: Prime Video and HBO max
I hope you’ve watched Companion already because, spoiler alert, it’s not the main characters who are screaming romance. Iris and Josh (Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid) were brought together under the same circumstances as Eli and Patrick (Harvey Guillén and Lukas Gage), but it’s the latter’s love that warmed my cold heart.
Love Lies Bleeding

How about we have a crime thriller romance in this streaming guide? This one is cheating. Katy O’Brian stole my heart, and I seriously did not know I was such a romantic. Gym manager Lou (Kristen Stewart) falls hard for Bodybuilder Jackie (O’Brian). Their love ignites violence and drags them deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family.
Sinners
Where you can watch: Prime Video and HBO max
Who doesn’t need another excuse to hit play on Sinners? It continues to be one of the top 10 most-streamed movies as I write this. Throughout this gorgeously stylish film, there is romance boiling over. Perhaps sex. Whatever it is, I like it, I love it, I want some more of it. It’s Wunmi Mosaku and Michael B. Jordan for me.
There. That’s it. You can’t top the love in Sinners. Valentine’s Day would be the perfect day to watch some horror with a little romance on the side.
