As most of our writers noted in our EOY lists, 2025 was a weird year for the genre. Sure, movies like Sinnersand Bring Her Backmade everyone’s list, while The Ugly Stepsister made five out of six of the lists we published. Final Destination: Bloodlines,V/H/S/Halloween, Weapons, and Heart Eyesalso did very well among our chaotic staff. However, while we showered love on these titles, many of us remarked that it felt like an off year overall. Many of us have festival favorites that didn’t get released this, but would have shaken some stuff up. We also watched movies we’re rooting for get pulled from release calendars again (cries in Jordan Peele’s direction). Instead of being salty (or highlighting all of these thoughts for the hundredth time), we’re looking toward 2026.
Check out the 10 movies we’re excited to have waiting for us in 2026!
10. The Bride!
Release Information: In Theaters on March 6
Frankenstein enlists Dr. Euphronius to help him create a companion known as the Bride. This creature’s existence is guaranteed to shake things up in 1930s Chicago. Maggie Gyllenhaal’sThe Bride! has been pushed back so many times, I was starting to worry we would never get it. Is the star-studded cast one of the reasons we’re excited? Yes. Are we also hoping for another good Frankenstein addition after quite a few questionable ones these last few years? Most definitely.
9. Send Help
Release Information: In Theaters on January 30
A woman finds herself stranded with her boss after a plane crash. We clearly want this Sam Raimi horror comedy starring Rachel McAdams ASAP. Not to be dramatic, but it is one of the few reasons we’re optimistic about this 2026 business. I also find it funny that this survival horror is the second time McAdams played a character who has the worst flight imaginable. I highly recommend you all check out Red Eye so you can fully understand why I don’t want to see this beloved actor in an airport.
8. Night Patrol
Release Information: In Theaters on January 16
A cop discovers that local cops are endangering the residents of his childhood community. That sounds like real world horror, and we all immediately want to nope the fuck out of that. However, hear me out! Jermaine Fowler, Justin Long, Dermot Mulroney, and thee Flying Lotus are in this movie. That’s why I will be sat and you’re welcome for the information. This horror movie is guaranteed to be more complicated than the premise leads us to believe. It feels like the PR team is actually doing its job by keeping the good stuff under wraps. I’m excited to see how right I am at the theater because I don’t watch trailers and I dodge spoilers as if my life depends on it.
7. The Mummy
Release Information: In Theaters on April 17
A young girl disappears in the desert and returns eight years later to a broken family who is about to discover the nightmare is only beginning. I am an expert on fucked up families, and I love supernatural horror. Yet, I am not as sold on this movie as other people, but I do trust Lee Cronin. So, I’m going to stand beside him because he hasn’t let me down yet. Fingers crossed that this is the Blumhouse movie we love in 2026.
6. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
Release Information: In Theaters On January 16
Spike joins Jimmy Crystal’s gang, and Dr. Kelson discovers something that could change the world. Most of our staff were indifferent about 28 Years Later. However, everyone is excited to see what Nia DaCosta does with this sequel. We’re also geeked to get more time with Jack O’Connell’s mysterious (and wigged) character. We’ll be seated and hoping for good things from this zombie-filled ride. We’re also curious if the rotting peen energy will carry forward, but that’s a different article.
5. Alpha
Release Information: In Theaters on March 27
A troubled 13-year-old returns home from school with a tattoo that sends her world upside down. We’re big fans of Julia Ducournau (Raw, Titane) and body horror. More importantly, I didn’t catch it at any festivals, so I have severe FOMO. So, we have been impatiently waiting for Neon to drop this disturbing gem. Luckily, 2026 is going to be our year. If the filmmaker’s previous work is any indication, Alpha is going to be a weird, cool, and deadly time.
4. Frogman Returns
Release Information: Expected Spring 2026
Amy and Dallas return to Loveland to settle a score with the Frogman. This found footage sequel is hopping around festivals, making us jealous. So, we’re happy it’s scheduled to release next year. I was on set for a couple of days but have no idea how all of the cool I saw stuff turned out. However, I can promise you this is going to be wild in so many fun ways. We’re all going to be glad we joined this sick frog cult before it was trendy.
3. Mother of Flies
Release Information: Arrives on Shudder January 23
A terminally ill young woman seeks out a witch in the woods who might be able to cure her for a price. We do not play about the Adams Family at Horror Movie Blog. Not only did the first family of indie horror give us one of our favorite festival finds, but Toby Poser gave one of my favorite performances of the year. This is why I’m sad many people won’t see Mother of Flies until it hits Shudder in January 2026. However, I’m also jealous of everyone about to watch it for the first time.
2. Obsession
Release Information: In Theaters on May 15
A man wishes for the woman he has feelings for to fall in love with him, and then finds out wishes can be deadly. I stood in so many lines to catch this movie at TIFF because I needed to see how Curry Barker would follow up Milk & Serial. He did not disappoint, and I am sad so many people have to wait to see this in 2026. Had it come out this year, it would have been in my top 10 movies.Obsession also has Inde Navarrette giving a show-stealing performance that I cannot wait for us to all be able to talk about.
1. Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come
Release Information: In Theaters on March 27
Grace must outrun four families this time around, while also protecting her sister. This has been one of my most anticipated movies since it was announced for 2026. We’re all huge fans of Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella) at HMB. So, we are beyond excited to see them return to the world that introduced most of us to their work. There isn’t a word that encompasses the excitement of finally seeing this star-studded sequel. We almost had to close our offices for three business days when the premiere date got moved up by two weeks. So, you can expect most of us to fully lose our shit when we finally get our eyeballs on this one.
Honorable Mention:
Return to Silent Hill
Release Information: In Theaters on January 23
A man receives a mysterious letter that leads him to a cursed town filled with threats and secrets. I grew up on these games, and the first movie remains one of the best and truest video game adaptations I have ever seen. So, I’m rooting for Christophe Gans’ return to Silent Hill with Return to Silent Hill (I’ll see myself out). I have a childish excitement that I am trying to control, but fear it’s too late.
Writing a list of movies we’re excited for is always tricky. Not just because some of them will unfortunately let us down, simply because not all titles can be bangers either. It’s also tricky because every year we discover that some of our favorite movies are indie films that come out of nowhere. Stuff we won’t know exists until we stumble into it at a festival, or we discover through word of mouth. The horror movies we don’t know to be on the lookout for because some rando is grabbing friends this weekend to film something that will pop up on the internet and give us nightmares. All that to say, we’re excited about the 10 movies I listed above. However, we are also high-key excited for the frightful friends we’re going to meet along the way in 2026.
