WTF?! // 31 Days of Halloween — Day 18 (Re-Animator)

Read Time:1 Minute
Happy 31 days of Halloween!

This year, we’re celebrating with a different movie pick each day that made us audibly gasp, “WHAT THE FUCK?!

Today’s movie is a special anniversary pick! The crowd goes wild! *Cupping hands around mouth and making crowd sound* On the 18th day of October in 1985, Re-Animator opened to all audiences in the US. You read that correctly; our 18th Halloween pick, Re-Animator, was originally released on the 18th of October!

Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) is a funny little med student obsessed with bringing the dead back to life. Lightning crashes! Muahaha! Insert all the evil laughs here. Herbert is using his neon green glow stick, re-animator juice all willy nilly bringing cats and people back to life as mindless zombies with super strength. It’s all bizarre, but the actual WTF moment doesn’t actually arrive until the grand finale.

Somehow we have an even more over-the-top “mad scientist” in Dr. Hill (David Gale), who is creepily obsessed with Megan (Barbara Crampton). “Funny little med student,” Herbert beheads the over-the-top “mad scientist” Hill and reanimates the head and body. Yes, we now have a reanimated head and body walking around.

Hill is carrying around his own head in a pan and eventually kidnaps Megan in the biggest “What the fuck?! What’s he doing?!” moment you could imagine. I got all the heebie-jeebies as he picked up his own head to assault the poor, restrained Megan. Naked corpses, headless zombies, all hell breaks loose, and we got two sequels for added fun.

"Re-Animator" (1985) Empire International Pictures

I love horror. I consume genre films, tv, and books. THE THING is the greatest movie of all time and I wish Chucky was my bestie. I have 6 cats and 2 dogs and I collect toys. I don’t consider myself a professional critic, mainly because I don’t get paid, but I do enjoy discussing horror with anyone who will listen.
