You might have noticed we love international horror here at Horror Movie Blog. We cannot get enough of them and are sad that they usually take so long to reach American audiences. What makes it even worse is some streamers drop them with little warning (glares at Netflix). So, we wanted to make sure you knew these recent-ish titles are now available to watch from the comfort of your own home. Kick your feet up and get ready to see some really cool shit you might have missed out on.

The Coffee Table

Directed by Caye Casas

Where You Can Watch: VOD

Jesús and Maria are new parents going through a rough patch. They decide to buy a table, and that single decision will alter their lives forever. I love this movie and think it is possibly the bleakest comedy I have seen in years. Avoid all spoilers and hit play knowing as little as possible because you do not want this ride ruined. However, when you finish watching one of my favorite international titles on this list, I have a review you can check out. You can also check out Caye Casas five favorite horror films while wondering if you will ever be okay again.

Exhuma

Directed by Jang Jae-hyun

Where You Can Watch: AMC+ and Shudder

A shaman and her protégé are hired to investigate a family’s curse. They think the problem will be as simple as excavating a grave, but they are dead wrong. In my review, I wrote that this is possibly the most gorgeous movie of 2024. I stand by that sentiment all these months later. This is easily the most beautiful horror title I have seen this year. It is also still one of my favorite horror movies, international and domestic, of the year. I know the length is intimidating, but I swear it is so pretty, creepy, and filled with moments which will make you lean further in.

Grave Torture

Directed by Joko Anwar

Where You Can Watch: Netflix

A girl sets out to prove religion is a lie after her parents die and finds herself on a terrifying path. This psychological horror film is based on Anwar’s short of the same name.  I do not know anything about this movie other than Joko Anwar made it, and he has never led me wrong before. See Satan’s Slaves (2017), Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion, and Impetigore if you do not believe me. Netflix did not advertise this international title, so I only discovered the title because I follow the filmmaker on Twitter. They also dropped Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams earlier this year. Which is an anthology series that deserves your attention.

Love Will Tear Us Apart (2023)

Directed by Kenichi Ugana

Where You Can Watch: Tubi

A girl saves a classmate from bullies. However, this triggers something that results in the people around her dying gruesome deaths and her maybe finding true love. I can honestly say that Love Will Tear Us Apart has something for everyone. I found this because a friend knew I would be the audience for a Japanese slasher. It is bloody, funny, and unique. I am glad it is streaming for free so more people can experience this unique tale.

Sleep

Directed by Jason Yu

Where You Can Watch: In Theaters and on VOD

An expectant mother must figure out the root of her husband’s dangerous sleepwalking habits before he hurts their small family. I love this movie, and loved it even more because it never took the obvious routes. Jung Yu-mi and the late Lee Sun-kyun give outstanding performances in this unsettling world. I am so happy it is finally out of the festival circuit so more people can see it. Check out my full review

These are five of the international horror movies that I hope you will keep an eye out for. However, there are plenty more that we might not see until next year or happen to be on a streamer that is not telling us they have something of interest. So, let us know what cool new international titles you run across in these streaming streets at @horrormovieblog.
