Rabia Sitabi-Stigter’s 5 Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2026

2026 is almost halfway over, and we’ve been eating decently with titles such as Obsession, Exit 8, and They Will Kill You. But we have so much more to look forward to later in the year, and we start immediately this summer. Now that Cannes is over and we’ve caught a glimpse of what genre is bringing us, I am excited for the rest of the horror calendar, namely;

5. Ghost in the Cell

Release Date: 2026

If Indonesia is not on your horror cinema radar yet, then what are you doing with your life? Master of Indo-horror Joko Anwar is back with more nightmares with his latest project, Ghost in the Cell. A notorious prison is racking up corpses due to an unknown force, and different groups have to work together to survive. Expect practical gore and no mercy. Major trigger warning for anyone with Trypophobia.

4. Godzilla minus Zero

Release Date: November 6th, 2026

The Academy Award-winning Godzilla/Gojira returns. Godzilla minus Zero takes place two years after the events of Godzilla minus One and promises to be another major kaiju moment. Sign me up for any monster classic, and especially with Godzilla; say less, and take my money.

3. Other Mommy

Release Date: October 9th, 2026

Based on the horror novel Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, Other Mommy is a horror story through the eyes of a sweet toddler trying to protect her family without understanding what is really happening in the house. She just knows that she needs to keep the demonic Other Mommy away from her loved ones. I listened to the audiobook, which was done completely in a kid’s voice (by a mature actress), and it was terrifying. Cannot wait for this!

2. Clayface

Release Date: October 23, 2026

Although part of the DC Universe, Warner Bros is teasing full horror with Clayface. The Mike Flanagan co-written body horror about the shapeshifting Batman villain has teased us already with a melty, gory trailer, and has me ready. It’s not DC’s first dive into genre, but it’s definitely currently the most anticipated live-action DC horror.

1. Colony

Release Date: August 28th, 2026

The director of Train to Busan is back! After a successful premiere at Cannes 2026, everyone has high expectations for his latest Korean Zombies iteration, Colony. I am excited to see what Colony brings. It promises to be the next evolution in Zombie-virus movies after Yeon Sang-ho’s successful Train to Busan and introduce a new way to look at biochemical horror.

Honorable mentions:
  • Buddy: Get stuck in a kids’ television show with a murderous mascot.
  • Forbidden Fruits: Mean Girls meets The Craft, but more camp (think John Waters).
