Some of our favorite faces in horror have banded together to give us our new favorite podcast, Today In Gay. A show dedicated to sharing the good (and bad) news impacting the queer community. This daily show manages to drag transphobes and highlight cool things happening within the community while providing a safe and reliable news source.
How It Started
Today In Gay started out as the brain child of Jasmin Savoy Brown (she/they) who enlisted Nay Bever (she/her/hers), after the two met while co-producing the Emmy-nominated docuseries Queer for Fear. After shopping the podcast around for a few years, they decided to do it themselves via Substack. They both serve as executive producers alongside editor and composer Lauren Klein.
Horror fiends know Brown from Yellowjackets and Sound of Violence. Brown also plays one of the very few Black characters who have survived the beloved Scream franchise. Meanwhile, many of us know Bever as one of the co-hosts of Attack of the Queerwolf, as a Visual Artist, and all-around badass.
Who All Going To Be There?
Bever co-hosts Today In Gay alongside Vico Ortiz (they/them/theirs and elle/ le/ e en espanol). Listeners may know Ortiz from Our Flag Means Death, Narcos vs. Zombies, or their work as a Drag King performer. Another familiar face (and voice) you will hear daily is Bex Taylor-Klaus (they/them/theirs), who serves as the Gayly Correspondent. Taylor-Klaus has been in too much horror to list, but Hell Fest and Trim Season are the movies that come to mind first today.
Today In Gay officially debuted on January 1, 2025, and episodes are around 30 minutes each. So, it is a quick binge for people who want to listen in order. Every episode is delightful and informative. It gives you that feeling of eavesdropping on a group of friends at brunch, and it is so much more engaging than the other daily news shows that most of my generation seems to be over. Obviously, Today In Gay is one of our new favorite things. If you also want daily doses of joy and/or just want to spend more time with your favorite genre producers and actors, you should check it out ASAP.
